The golden rule is to pack as lightly as possible. You don't want to be stuck with a lot of heavy baggage that you might not use anyway.

•Travel Towel - They are light and take very little space

•Malaria tablets (very important)

•Wet wipes/hand sanitizer or no-water/antibacterial soap

•Pocket Knife (Swiss/Leatherman type)

•Toothbrush/toothpaste/dental floss

•Sanitary requirements

•Contact lens solution & extra set of disposable lenses

•Band aids & moleskin

•Painkiller

•Antiseptic

•Anti-diarrhoea medicine

•basic antibiotic in case (get scrip from doctor before going)

•If taking a digital camera: memory stick(s)/data card(s), charger and extra batteries

•Travel pillow

•Money belt

•shower flip flops

•electric current converter to use on outlets

•sunglasses - bring extra if you have to donate.

•comfortable clothes to wear around the house

•water bottle

•lots of extra socks

•razor

•medical tape in case of a sprained ankle

•bandannas - bring extra to donate

•2 in one shampoo - your best friend
